Our marriage is a union of two different cultures and traditions, and that is particularly true in terms of differing traditions of wedding gift giving in Korea and America. The Korean tradition involves the giving of money in lieu of gifts. Contemporary American tradition dictates the bride and groom register at some store or another for various things they need to nest their home and start their new lives together. Ultimately, wedding gifts are a very personal matter and we do not wish to impose upon you a tradition with which you are uncomfortable. However, we present a few options and ideas for you to consider.
Travel Limitations
It will be difficult for us to transport gifts back to Seattle, so we ask that rather than bringing them to the wedding you please have them delivered directly to our address in Seattle. One perk of living in Seattle is that some items shipped from Amazon arrive the same day!!!
Our Current Address in Seattle
Jin Ha Lee & Cameron Jones 8520 Evanston Ave. N #409 Seattle, WA 98103
Korean Style
The traditional Korean wedding gift is cash. There will be a box and envelopes at the reception for any cash gifts. As some of you know, we are closing on our new home in Seattle immediately following the wedding and any cash gift you provide will be put towards our down payment. You can think of it as "buying a brick" for our new house :-)
American Style
We are technophilic internet junkies and love shopping online. We could not imagine doing something like creating a registry at a brick-and-mortar store — that screams for internetization! So, we have created a wedding registry at Amazon.com! We realized that we already have most of the things we need for our house, so our list is not very extensive, but there are some things we've been eyeing for a while.
Animal Style
Your gift with melted cheese, grilled onions and "Spread" on top! :-) Actually, we realize some people may not be comfortable giving cash, and others may not enjoy shopping online — in which case we invite you to get creative and pick something you think we'd absolutely love, just don't be too upset if we return it :-) If anyone has any questions about what we don't need, ping us.
